Our History

Krisle School was originally established in 1918 and was named for a family in the community. The original structure was built of wood and provided a school for African-American students in the northern area of Robertson County.

In 1957, the need became apparent for a new structure, and a brick building was erected just behind the original wooden school. Students from the three African-American schools in the Springfield area (Oregon School, the old Krisle School, and Woodard School) moved into the new Krisle School building in January of 1960.

During the 70s, the student population changed from predominately African-American as Krisle School began to serve all students from grades K-8 in the rural, farming community of northern Robertson County.

In 1980, Krisle School served 110 students with a faculty of 10. During this time, 6th-8th grade students had the opportunity to play basketball for the Krisle Viking team. Throughout the 1980s, Krisle's student membership grew, and the need for more classrooms became apparent. As a possible solution to this problem, the Robertson County Board of Education examined the possibility of moving seventh and eighth grade students to Springfield Middle School. This was an unpopular idea among Krisle parents, and the Board of Education chose instead to add classrooms to the structure in order to allow these grades to remain at Krisle. The addition was completed in 1990 and included four new classrooms, restrooms, storage rooms, and a library.

The community surrounding Krisle School continued to grow, and once again, in 1997, a new building program began. This time, fourteen classrooms and a gymnasium were added and some older sections of the school underwent remodeling. The seventh and eighth grades were finally moved to Springfield Middle School, making Krisle a K-6 school.

In the fall of 2003, sixth grade students were moved to Springfield Middle. The first Pre-K class at the school began in 2006. Krisle now serves approximately 400 students in grades PreK-5.
